Wrexham Senedd Candidate Jeremy Kent has spoken out at the revelation by the Welsh First Minister, Mark Drakeford that the Welsh Government is delaying the roll out of the vaccine in Wales to preserve stock.
Jeremy Kent, the Welsh Conservative Candidate for the Wrexham Welsh Parliament seat commented “This admission from the First Minister is unforgivable, Wales is highest per capita in the UK for Coronavirus cases and has suffered the longest and most restrictive lockdowns out of the 4 nations. We know the only way out of this is the vaccine and is the light at the end of the tunnel”.
The comments followed a BBC Radio 4 Interview on Monday, where the Labour First Minister, Mark Drakeford doubled down on his go-slow method for the roll out of the Pfizer vaccine over a 6 week period to ensure that vaccinators were not “standing around”.
The comments faced widespread backlash from across Wales as many see the delay will cause excess cases and ultimately additional deaths.
Jeremy added “Wales continues to lag behind other parts of the UK in terms of the vaccine roll out and the case rate is exceptionally high in Wales, especially Wrexham and I know many are concerned that the delay on giving the vaccine will cause extra unwanted pressure on the already stretched Maelor Hospital, who are working hard to protect and care for those in need.”
“There are many high risk and elderly resident in Wrexham who are obviously worried as they have not heard about receiving the vaccine and are seeing those in England in the same category getting theirs. The First Minister needs to correct this and ensure that we are vaccinating people as fast as possible. Only then will we put this behind us, get our business open, our children back in school and be able to see family and friends."
